Nový Zbyněk Ph.D.
About me
Researcher experienced in the field of nuclear medicine/pharmacy with the main research interest in preparation and analysis of radiolabeled compounds for microPET/SPECT/MRI/CT imaging, biodistribution studies of radiolabeled compounds in vivo and studies of behavior of radiolabeled compounds in vitro. Published 32 scientific papers, >50 abstracts, >260 SCI citations, H-index 10.
Zbynek is the contact person and coordinator under umbrella of The UPOL-Bioimaging Facility (BF: https://imtm.cz/core-facilities/bioimaging-core-facility) for the purposes of MRI/PET imaging of small animals (mice, rats). This includes whole process from the initial contact with the client asking for an imaging study via plannig of particular imaging up to evaluation of obtained image data using dedicated software tools. In case of any interest for MRI and/or MRI/PET imaging do not hesitate to contant Zbynek. MRI enables high-resulution imaging of whole body and has an advantage in imaging soft tissues (brain, heart, tumors) over to CT. The combination of MRI and PET imaging is cutting edge technology in preclincal imaging merging the advantages of both modalities, where PET adds more functional information to MRI image (e.g. glucose metabolism, expression of tumor targets, etc.).

| Summary: | The student will employ modern in vivo imaging techniques namely positron emission tomography, single-photon emission tomography, computed tomography and optical imaging in order to elucidate effect of novel anticancer or antimicrobial agents. The other part of the project will be assessment of novel radiotracers directed towards targets expressed by tumour cells or by microbial pathogens. Daily work routine will include all proper working steps common in radiopharmacy, i.e. starting with gaining an radioisotope from dedicated source, radiolabelling of selected compound, quality control (HPLC/TLC), stability tests, in vitro testing of biological properties and finally in vivo procedures (biodistribution, static/dynamic imaging). Expected previous education includes medicine, pharmacy, pharmacology or related field. |
